Electric Friday Night Thermal and Electric assist Thermal Glider Rules

Reminder for 2012 season by Terry Antell

PURE GLIDER -- Launch using the club bungee. The stop watch (count down timer) starts on the model releasing from the bungee. Attempt to fly for the required time and land exactly on the time. 7 Mins for May, 8 Mins for June, 9 Mins for July & 10 Mins for August.

ELECTRIC GLIDER -- Launch using a Height Limiter, or 30 seconds for those without a limiter. The stop watch (as above) starts immediately the model is release from your (or helpers) hand. Fly without using the motor again and land as above. Times are as Pure Glider. Remember, start watch upon release of model for elec only. Land on time as Pure Glider.

2 competition flights allowed each evening. Either 2 Pure Glider on bungee or 2 Elec Glider or 1 of each. Your best flight of each evening is carried forward to end of each Month.

It's intended to be a little challenging but achievable by most reasonable flyers, subject to weather conditions.

You may also sport fly any type model but PLEASE give way to those taking part in the flying challenge.

Beware of bungee being stretched out for launch. Avoid it and your mates.

Also have a helper watching the whole field for the general public and their dogs!!

We also try to start at 6pm but anytime after is fine.

Electric Friday Night Thermal and Electric assist Thermal Glider Rules

Rule change for 2012 in red

The rules are based on the Thermal Glider Rules (currently 2010) used at Stanpit Rec on every Friday evenings between May and August.

Safety is all important as this is a public site.

No over flying of the houses, roads or over Stanpit Marsh (this is the same as the Glider Only rules.)

We encourage ALL to use a Basic 2 Height Limiter. This is set to 200 metres and 30 seconds. Launch your model and the electric motor will cut upon reaching 200 metres or 30 seconds, whichever comes first. Now close the throttle and glide as the Friday Night Glider rules.

Without Using a Height Limiter, brushless motors using Lipo batteries will be limited to a 30 second run. If it is noticed that any model is climbing well above a model using a Height Limiter then subsequent launches will be restricted to a 20 second motor run.

The stopwatch or countdown timer will start when the motor cuts.

Land in the Stanpit Rec as close to the exact time as possible (as the Glider Rules).

May – Fly for a total of 7 minutes (420 seconds.)

June – Fly for a total of 8 minutes (480 seconds.)

July – Fly for a total of 9 minutes (540 seconds.)

August – Fly for a total of 10 minutes (600 seconds.)

Score under or over the allotted minutes reduces your flight score (like the Gliders).

No spot landing score, just land within the field. Anything attached to the ground counts and the watch stops.

If the motor is started for any reason the score is zero (please re-use the motor for safety reasons, safe flying is no accident.)

A maximum of two flights per evening. I.E. Two pure glider or 2 elec glider or one of each.  All flights over 2 minutes count ( same as Gliders.)
