STRAWBERRY FIELD (first impressions)

STANPIT

FAWCETT’S FIELD

BARTON CLIFFS

Strawberry Flying Field Rules (Revised October 2011)

The field is situated on the Southampton Road between Lymington and Brockenhurst and model flying, by Club members only, is permitted for a fee of £2 per day from Monday to Saturday, and for glider or electric flight only.

Travel from Lymington for about 1¼ miles towards Brockenhurst. The field is on the left and is known for its Sunday Car Boot Sales – its actual name is Strawberry Field.

Enter via the third gate from the Lymington direction, using a key obtainable from Terry Antell or Keith Young. There is a small refundable deposit required for a key.

PARKING. When entering the field close the gates after you and lock them using the padlock. Drive straight on and park by the barn on your right.

Put the flying fee of £2 in an envelope and place it in the slot between the barn doors (the one you’ve just parked by).

FLYING: You should be able to operate & fly your model safely. If necessary please ask another member to accompany you who can fly safely, to ensure we establish a happy relationship with the field owner and any locals.

Please be advised by your committee. (Oct 2010)

The flying field at Boldre, Strawberry Field, has been used for a month and a few safety issues have become apparent.  With immediate effect please observe the following.

Parking ONLY in the area adjacent to the barn.

You may drive to the general pits area to unload.  You must have consent of other flyers first. NO aircraft to be airborne at this time. After unloading immediately take car to parking area.

On each flying occasion members must decide on a launch and landing area along with a pilot box. This must be located away from the pits.

The parking area is a no fly zone area, as is the Southampton Road for all fixed wing aircraft and helicopters.

Electric gliders must climb to around 200 metres over the main flying area BEFORE moving away to use any thermal lift.

ALL pilots to call LAUNCHING OR TAKING OFF along with LANDING.

No flying over or adjacent to the house on the Southampton Road. This building is on the same side as the flying field in the Northerly direction.

Overflying the main road is forbidden. Adjacent fields to the South/South West are owned by our field owner and may be overflown. You may cross the fence to retrieve a model.

As you leave, check the padlock is snapped closed and locked.

PROBLEMS: Let the owner know immediately should anything untoward happen, by phone on one of the numbers on the card supplied with the key. Then advise a committee member as soon as possible.

Remember -- Happy flying is no accident.

Barton Slope Site.

Only Slope Gliders or Electric assist Gliders to operate here.

After parking your vehicle take your model and radio equipment to the front without switching on.  If using 35 meg equipment place peg on the frequency board but still check with any other flyers that your frequency is clear. If using 2.4 gHz, announce to others that you are on 2.4  (it stops panics).

The Flight Line at this site is the cliff edge.  Please announce “Launching” and guide model out and away from the cliff edge.

There is to be no combat flying or intentional mid air dog fights.

When ready, observe the field and when clear call “Landing” and make an approach over the grass but land in the middle of field, not into other flyers or the model pound area.

Flying the houses or road is forbidden.

Fawcett’s Field.

This site is suited to Fixed Wing Electric Power Models, Elec Gliders and Helicopters.

Walk to the centre area before switching on your Tx.

There is to be no flying beyond the tree line adjacent to the car park or over the club house.

One word of caution! Another small group of flyers occasionally fly from the Gore Road end of this site. They park in The  Manor pub, entry via Gore Road. They usually only fly afternoons and evenings. They are not necessarily C&DMFC members. (Reference to Ashley Fliers deleted - it is NOT an Ashley Fliers group - Ed)

Stanpit Recreation Ground.

C&DMFC fly this site exclusively, by licence with the Council. Members may fly electric helicopters, fixed wing electic power models and gliders.

Helicopters and fixed wing power must not be flown outside the recreation ground boundaries. Gliders may use a bungee for launch but at present must also not fly outside the recreation area boundaries.

There are two Bylaws – one for the recreation ground, the other for Stanpit Marsh. The BMFA are contesting the second Bylaw and the Chairman is representing the club. (The Christchurch Borough Sports Council agree that flying over the Marsh is acceptable with a Glider, but tbis has not yet been ratified).

REMEMBER. All sites are public areas and under the CAA 658, article 74 & 73 we have an obligation to avoid people, structures, roads and aircraft (paragliders are aircraft) at ALL times. Failing to do so is a CRIMINAL OFFENCE..

Safe Flying is no accident.

Terry Antell, Chairman.
