Chairman’s chatter

After moaning about last summer I see I’m feeling the same about an even worse winter, weather wise that is.

As I said last time, the Cessna Skylane is flying successfully again. I’ve worked on the ¼ scale Fournier and it too awaits better weather conditions. I’ve still got the autogyro to prove it’s worth since I built it a year ago!!

Our speakers still continue to educate us and entertain at the monthly meetings. We regularly see 35 members at club meetings so hopefully we are doing something right.

We have updated the BMFA with our log of club instructors. They are,

  • Terry Antell-- Fixed Wing Power, Slope Glider, Thermal Glider & Elec Glider.
  • Keith Young--Fixed Wing Power & Elec Glider.
  • John Stafford—Fixed Wing Power & Elec Glider.
  • Martin Burr-- Fixed Wing Power, Slope Glider, Thermal Glider & Elec Glider.
  • Ian Wettstein—Slope Glider.
  • We currently don’t have a member available to train anyone on Helicopters! So, if you can help out with anyone wishing to learn to master heli flying please let your committee know.

The only Club Examiner is Terry Antell—all disciplines at “A” level.

At a recent Christchurch Borough Sports Council meeting I was pleased to receive a cheque for £100. Yes, our club grant request (Feb 2010) was accepted.

With the money Terry Sullivan bequeathed to the club we purchased a 7 channel Futaba 2.4 GHz Tx & Rx. We’ve also had a label added to the Tx stating ‘In Memory of Terry Sullivan 1957 – 2010’. This will keep his name in circulation for many years. Terry was keen on training new members so it was fitting to buy gear to be used for the purpose.

So many members had mentioned that they just didn’t see other like minded guys over the long winter months. (Not all can make the monthly club meetings). The weather keeping them away from slope and field meetings. Early in February I started a 2 weekly Monday meet and chat at the Walkford Skittle Alley, 2 till 4 pm. Just bring a model problem, including the actual plane, motor or whatever and let those present attempt to sort it out. If nothing else, just enjoy the company of other members. No agenda, no paperwork, just a chat.

I intend starting this “Club House” meeting again during early November 2011.

And remember, safe flying is no accident.

Terry
