BMFA INSTRUCTIONS ON MANDATORY OCURRENCE REPORTING Under the Article 16 authorisation that BMFA members can operate under it is a legal requirement to report certain occurrences to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB). The following OCCURRENCES must by law be reported to the AAIB as soon as possible by telephone on 01252 512299 (manned 24 hours/day) and to the CAA ;
Our Article 16 Authorisation also adds the requirement to report to the CAA any SERIOUS INCIDENTS or other OCCURRENCES which involve;
To make the process simple we have an occurrence reporting portal at https://reporting.bmfa.uk/where you will find more information, if you are not sure whether you need to submit a report there is an initial form that you should complete which will guide you, based on answers that you provide. If a mandatory occurrence report is required you will be directed automatically to the online form to submit your report. If a mandatory report is not requried you have the option to complete a non-mandatory incident report, these reports again are to check for any patterns in the incidents and to see what lessons can be learned If you are in any doubt whether you need to submit a report complete the initial 'triage' form at https://reporting.bmfa.uk and you will be guided on what you need to do.
