christchurch and district model flying club

not the chairman’s chatter

There are some exciting changes coming up in the club in the near future, which were overwhelmingly voted for at the AGM, and we would like to take this opportunity to tell you about them. As from 1st January 2008, we will become affiliated with the BMFA, the governing body of our sport (? Ed). This will give us a stronger potential for long term growth and development. But it does lead to some changes we will have to make.

The first of these is our membership year. The BMFA use the calendar year, whilst we have used the financial year. So we have reduced the Membership fee for the current year to take account of the shorter period. But at the new year we will need everyone to pay promptly as we have to get the money to the BMFA!

There will also be an increase in costs to include the BMFA fees, although as these include Insurance it is not as bad as it might be. To ease this transition, the AGM voted to make the club fees for 2008 only £5, plus the BMFA fees (last year this was £27, and is unlikely to be very much more for ‘08) For 2009, the club fee will be £10 plus BMFA, and 2010 will be £15 plus BMFA.

The club Certificate of Competence tests have been revised over the past year or so, closely following the BMFA “A” certificate. As a result, anyone who has the club tests will automatically be put forward for an A certificate. Unfortunately the former Committee member responsible for testing did not pass on any lists of who had passed what, so we will be asking for your help here in assessing who should be granted a certificate – there are many of you who we do not fly with and do not know your levels of ability, but should have a certificate!

We will also have to hold an EGM in December to finalise the fees when we know what the BMFA charges are, change the AGM date and such like.

The Chairman and Membership Secretary have been to a meeting of the Southern Area BMFA, and been made very welcome. They are very happy we are joining, and made us most welcome. We are sure that it is the right way forward for the Club.
