  • Chairman’s Musings

Hello Fellow modellers.  Your committee has continued to meet about every 6 or 7 weeks and yes, there has been much to get through too.

The Construction & Finish competition rules have been reviewed over a couple of committee meetings. Finally we came up with an agreement (which is published separately as part of the Club Website)

To date two models have been presented at the current year meetings.

My exploits have included acquiring a ‘Fredy’ slope pylon/F3F model. Also a ‘SlopeMaster’ which is a 3D slope model. A BEDE or BD5. This version is a slope glider but is based on a scale ‘Build it yourself’ aircraft that was kitted in the US.  A ‘Baba Jaga’ slightly slower slope soarer. Various photos attached of these.

My latest hunt is for a 9 channel 2.4 GHz module for my JR 9XII Tx’s along with a 9 channel Rx to match. My basic research has shown there is more than one type of 2.4 system, and yes, they don’t mix with each other! We have to purchase equipment that has a CE mark to confirm with current regulation. The ones without this mark are being marketed in the from various sources and Receivers over here won’t work with our CE approved gear (Tx or Rx’s). Some of the US gear claims over 390,000 channels working together, therefore, 120 transmitter modules can be used together without a problem. That would look like migrating birds at Stanpit!!! Err, which one’s yours??

I was pleased to meet Peter King at Fawcett’s Field during July along with his instructor, Keith Young.  The test was Fixed Wing power using an electric motor as the power source. Peter stayed calm as the turbulent wind caused the tree tops to wave at him. He carried out the test twice, as BMFA requirements and passed with flying colours. Well done Peter.

Time you read this our club “Fly-in” day will have been held at Keyhaven, Wednesday 15th August. Our static stand at the RAF association “Wings Appeal” in New Milton along with the Hordle Fete static display. These were on Saturday 1st September AM & PM!!

Happy safe landings and see you all at the EGM Wednesday 5th December where we start out BMFA affiliation process.
