It may not be Chile, but, as you can see by the attire, 'chilly' it definitely was!
For most of the year the streams bounding three sides of Howard's field serve only to concentrate the mind when judging the landing approach but, in wet winters such as this, it does flood. Enterprising fliers of course just treat this as an opportunity to fit floats to their planes but for the majority, getting the cars back onto the field marks the beginning of the new flying season.
As you may gather from the poses struck by the participants, some of the engines were not quite so enthusiastic about coming out of hibernation!
