Eventually agreed a new Licence to use Longham for continued use for electric powered water planes. That’s what I said in May. We still don’t have a final licence to fly. Don’t panic, we have paid a fee to continue, it’s just a paper chain that is soo slooow!

Saturday 21st July was our summer Fun Comp & BBQ at Strawberry Field.Around 45 people attended, this being partners, etc. too. Just 12 members took part in the Fun Comp bit in the morning.Trevor Hewson won the FW Power section & Alan Butterworth took a bottle for winning the Elec Glider element.

We had one invited guest arrive, that being Geoff Collins representing Wessex Soaring Assoc. Geoff brought along three LARGE cakes for pudding. He said enough for 10 or 12! We actually fed 30 or so people and still had one piece left at the end.

Although the weather has been hot and warm for many weeks this didn’t mean perfect model aircraft flying weather. Winds were light, at times very variable and the thin air did nothing for slope or thermal soaring. The green algae loved it and invaded the site at Longham. Not healthy stuff to ingest through nose or mouth!I gave up trying to glue balsa model parts together as all glues set too fast. Getting up and at it by 6am did the trick until 7.30am (ish)

Future Events:

Strawberry field CLOSED for model flying on Saturday 1st September for a Fun Day. All proceeds going to Naomi House and Jacks Place, a Hospice for children.

Saturday 22nd September is Longham Open Day. Our waterborne flyers will be there demonstrating their skills and having models on display on dry land. This is subject to a meeting of all parties just in case it has to be cancelled owing to the algae. You’ll all be advised if it’s on or off.

Our September meeting is the annual Construction & Finish comp.October we’ll have Tim Calvert demonstrating printing plastic items from his printer.

November is the annual Club Auction. December is our AGM.

Advanced notice: January will be our annual quiz and February sees Trevor Hewson giving a talk/film about site discipline & etiquette.

Finally I can report on Indoor Flying.  I now have two Friday evenings per month until Christmas booked. The fee required I haven’t agreed yet! The school want £35 per session where as we were paying £25 up till March this year. They also want to review the charges in December for January 2019. Watch this space. I’m sure a compromise will be reached.

I’m still enjoying flying my 3.7metre ‘Shadow’ electric glider. I assembled a 50” W/S Wot’s Wot and very recently gave it its maiden flight (which was superb).

Just started assembling another EasyStreet 2 FW  elec power model. The first one was gobbled up by the turf at SF!!!!! This time it’ll have a 4 cell Lipo instead of the 3 cell, first time round. (oh no) Who said that?

Wishing you all a loving flying Autumn.
