Whilst some fly all the year round, as the weather improves many of us will be venturing out anew, and it is perhaps timely to ask a few questions to ensure that our flying expeditions will be enjoyable and trouble-free:
1. Insurance
Have you paid your subscription? Our membership year and insurance
year both now run from April to March for all members, regardless
of when you joined the club. This means that, from 1st April,
your club insurance cover will lapse unless your membership
has been renewed.
2. Rules and Protocol
Are you familiar with the codes of conduct for the flying site(s)
you intend to use? A basic introduction to each of our regular
sites is given in the Members' guide, so that should be your first
port of call. Many sites have additional requirements, for example:
i) Stanpit Permits are required and are renewable annually.
These can be obtained from Neil Longman. There is a written code
of practice agreed with the Council and you need to log in each
time you intend to fly there.
ii) Fawcetts Field Whilst there are no permits required,
you do need to sign an undertaking and log in. Contact is Trevor
Hewson.
iii) South East Slope (Ridgeway) Permits are required,
obtainable from Brian Brockway.
iv) Hengistbury Head All users must be on a list maintained
by Trevor Hewson.
v) Bulbarrow Hill See separate notice.
vi) Howard's Field This is a privately run field and a
separate subscription is payable. Please talk to Steve Morris
or any committee member, if you are interested in joining.
vii) Slades Farm Permits issued by Bournemouth Borough
Council. Contact Mrs Piper on 01202 451186.
3. Models and Equipment
"I don't understand it, it was working perfectly the last
time I used it". Would you rather utter these words in private
with the model on the bench, or on the field with it buried up
to the wing!
4. You
Okay, you've got the certificate, but yes, you are the
weakest link! Brush up on the flight simulator perhaps?
Have a great season.
