Chairman’s chatter by Terry Antell

Like many of you, I’ve been in isolation since 20th March. The latest gov.uk letter now extends my isolation until 1st August!

I’ve received 2 telephone calls from HM Gov & 1 call from Hants CC. This was because I had complained about not being able to get home food deliveries from any supermarket.

Waitrose contacted me and I got a delivery slot in 8 days. The second telephone call I received from HM Gov was to see if I had heard from supermarkets. Yes, was my answer, just one. Two hours later Tesco emailed to offer a delivery slot which was a day, not an hour, a week later.

In the mean time I received an emergency food box from Hants CC which was free!!

Last time I said I had completed the Wots Wot. The virus put a stop to its maiden flight for weeks & weeks. Eventually A fine day with light winds arrived. I ventured to SF and set up to fly. Roger Dornom was already set up, so, just two of us. Perfect.

She, or is it IT flew really magnificently with only a little right aileron trim required. Nice landing, too! Taxiing difficult because the grass was (is) very coarse (lack of rain) also the grass wasn’t collected when it was cut. My Wots Wot had 3” main wheels instead of the 2 ¼ ones in the kit. Tail wheel doubled in diameter as well.

Our furry friends (fiends) have obviously been enjoying digging I found out.

Back near the pits I had to switch the power system off. I placed the Tx on the ground a little more than a metre from the model so as not to lose the signal connection.

As I walked towards the model I stumbled a little and my right trouser leg caught in the throttle stick and the model shot away hitting a plastic chair and then the barbed wire fence & a fence post. The prop kept turning even though the complete undercarriage had been ripped from the model, including the ply wood bottom of the model. The top & bottom wing were parted and the wing struts suffered as did the vertical fin and rudder. Balsa wood really doesn’t like barbed wire!!!!

Whether I’ll repair it I’m not sure. If I do it’ll be renamed the “Wots That?”

Finally, just to say 6 months have now gone by since I announced standing down at the 2020 AGM. I hope you chaps are sorting out my replacement??? (Red by the Ed)

Foot Note. I’m going to investigate making a switch on my Tx that isolates the power to the ESC. The strong elastic band I hand been using had perished.
