Hello Happy Members,

Summer 2017 is here. Longer evenings and some warmer days!

Following the fire experienced by Tony Harris at home I decided a harder line should be taken when it comes to Lipo batteries and safer conditions for charging. To this end I investigated supplies of Bat-Safe Boxes.

Our club funded the order of 27 boxes which resulted in a £10 per box saving and free postage to me. Those who ordered a box have honoured their order by paying promptly.

Let’s all try and be even more careful how and where we charge our batteries, and how we transport them! Fires are rare, but devastating in minutes when they happen.

After further investigation by Martin Burr of received boxes he found a short between the Live & Neutral cable by touching the internal box on exposed battery terminals could possible cause a battery fire. This more likely when being transported in the box. So, PLEASE ENSURE TERMINALS ARE TOTALLY PROTECTED WHEN TRANSPORTING IN THE BOX. (or anywhere else)

On a sad note, John Dann who lived at Pennington, Lymington, died in his sleep of a heart attack on 6th April. His wife Brenda advised me.

Brian Wiseman (aka Leonard B Wise, a writer in our mag). retired from aeromodelling at a grand age of 86. Brian moved away in May. Some committee members helped clear a few of his models and ancillary gear just before Easter. Some of this is in our Club Bits Box! Come to a meeting and take a look!!

Early in April I met the owner of a site in Bransgore. We were looking a for a dedicated site for FPV (First Person View) Quad flying. This was successful and we have 14 occasions when FPB flyers can use the site this year. These are some Sundays & some Thursday evenings.

Please view our club website for agreed dates and all the site rules.

Looking to July. We’re holding our second Club Fun Day and BBQ at Strawberry Field on Saturday 15th July. Usual Fun Comp for a couple of hours during the morning followed by a BBQ. BBQ will be Free Of Charge. but this year we’ll have to pay the usual £2 to the field owner if you fly.

Happy landings.

Terry
