Indoor Scale at Fleming Park
by Mike Roach

The main Hall at Fleming Park Sports centre is used once a month in the winter by Waltham Chase MFC for indoor flying, and they kindly invite Christchurch members to come along and take part.  The whole venture is a financial tightrope for them, as the Hall is expensive and they are a small club.  Still, they just about broke even last season, partly because they expanded the format somewhat to encourage fliers to come along.  The first competition was a limbo event and the second a scale comp.  For the latter, marks were divided between scale fidelity and flying, which was to be take off, 2 LH circuits, 2 RH circuits and landing.  Unfortunately, my large Tabloid was set up for flying LH circuits only, and my brain froze up when it corkscrewed into the crowd: DSQ!  The 2 Tiger Moths flew well, but Trevor had perhaps the best flight he's ever made with the SE5 and rounded off with a perfect landing right in front of the judges.  The winner!

L to R.  GWS Tiger Moth, out of the box.  GWS Tiger, heavily modified and much more scale-like but rather heavy.  Howard-Wright monoplane, rigging failed during practice.  Tabloid SS3, brain failure in flight.  Walrus.  Looks great, came 3rd.  SE5, 1st place.  Ken Shepperd (Editor, RC Model Flyer) also flew his Albatros CIII - I think he was 2nd.
