JON’S JOTTINGS

Hi to all members.

What a summer we have had albeit rather hot at times. It certainly favoured Oldfield rather than the slopes with the light winds.

Talking of Oldfield the site is beginning to look like a proper flat field site even if the grass is more than a bit absent. Well done to Alex and his various working parties in achieving this situation. I am sure the grass will become more obvious as the autumn and winter rains make this possible.

Unfortunately the dreaded Blue/Green Algae has made using the Longham Lakes  a problem as it is toxic but the owners have said we can fly but must not enter the water. Hand washing is imperative to prevent anyone becoming sick.

The Friday evening competition has been in action but attendance has not been great.  On the same subject we are heading towards autumn and indoor flying at Durlston Court which was not very well attended some evenings in the early spring. Maybe with the influx of new build Shockies and WWI aircraft we will see the numbers improve. I am, however, not getting any success in getting Durlston Court to contact me at present.

It would be remiss of me not to mention our helicopter colleagues who have been operating at Oldfield and entertaining us. We decided that for safety reasons it would be best that when heli’s were flying fixed wing should stay on the ground. This seems to be operating quite satisfactorily.

I must heap praise on Martin Delaney for his efforts as the club chief instructor. We now have six new A Test Certificates and Martin also got his B Certificate as well. I am glad to announce that Paul Johnston has agreed to help Martin with the instructing and Brian Payne will also join the team once he has had a minor medical procedure. Scott Hughes remains one of the instructing team but his work has meant he has not been available a lot of the time.

I am really impressed with the way the club is proceeding – a great deal of enthusiasm is always present and a fantastic can do attitude prevails. We now have 121 members which exceeds my personal expectations. The Google group continues to provide information and amusement.

Well done everyone and keep it up.
